Product Information
What does certified by Snell, ASTM, or CPSC mean?
CPSC = Consumer Product Safety Commission. They set the minimum standard all bicycle helmets must meet.
SNELL = Snell Memorial Foundation. The most trusted, oldest, and prestigious testing laboratories in the world for all types of crash helmets. They are a private, non-profit company. They are the only laboratory that has a continuous testing program after the helmet is certified to their standards. Look inside a helmet. If it has a serial numbered decal which says "SNELL B95", that helmet meets the HIGHEST standard for bicycle helmets.
ASTM F-1163 Equestrian Helmets. It should meet the ASTM standard for equestrian helmets (F1163). There is no law in the US that prohibits a merchant from selling equestrian helmets that do not meet any standard, so look for an ASTM F-1163 sticker.
ASTM F-2040 Snow Sports Helmets. The ASTM standard for recreational skiing was published in September of 2000 as ASTM F2040. You may also see the Snell standards: RS-98 for recreational skiing or S-98 for snow sports. You can find them on the Snell Web site. Snell has a comparison up on their Web site with the CEN and ASTM standards.
